Lupines

This is a photo from a trip I took just about a month ago. Before I make my weekend jaunts into the wilderness I’ll ask friends, people I work with, or family if they have run into anything special while doing their outdoor activities. A fellow photographer told me the flowers were real good in the Beartooths this year. Not sure what I was going to find I headed to the Beartooth Mountains and found acres and acres of Lupines.

Technical Info: Canon 5D 11, Bogen 3021 Tripod, 17-40mm Canon L lens, Two image blend to even out exposure

Go with the Flow

I headed out to Yellowstone one weekend to photograph the Yellowstone River in Hayden Valley. I had a spot picked out from a previous trip and knew this could be a great shot if all the elements came together. When I got there everything lined up pretty good and I thought I was going to get my shot. As the sun began to set, the heavy, beautifuly textured clouds began to move off to the south away from the Yellowstone River. I knew it was time to move and look for a different composition where the clouds would make up a big part of the composition. Down the road I stopped at Trout Creek and set up. The clouds began to light up with color. I was facing east while the clouds continued to move to the south. I grabbed all my 4×5 camera gear with the help of my wife, and in a panic ran from Trout Creek to Elk Antler Creek which lined up perfectly.  I got off a couple of photos and the light was gone. Looking back I think this was a better composition than the one I had intended on taking that day.

My First Blog Entry

Thu ,20/08/2009

Hello All:

Welcome to my web blog!  This summer has been a busy one traveling and exploring the region for new and exciting opportunities to photograph the landscape. With all the moisture we’ve received this year the wildflowers were fantastic, the creeks were running full, its still green, and we’ve had awesome sunrises and sunsets.  This is an active blog as I will be adding new material each week. I hope I can inspire, provoke thought, share some tips and techniques and answer a few questions. Drop me a line, grab my RSS feed and let me know what you think. Thank you for spending some time here. The images on this blog are available for purchase. For info e-mail me, dean@dsprophoto.com.
