The term "photography" literally means writing with light. I seek out the
most dramatic lighting possible for some subjects and for other subjects
I prefer softer, more even lighting. What you see as you view my images
is a window on a certain moment in time. Some subjects are nearly eternal
changing almost imperceptibly over time, like the Grand Tetons. Other
subjects are more fleeting. Wildflowers come and go quickly. Aspens
loose their leaves in the Fall. Floods can change the course of a river and
so on. But one thing that changes even more quickly is the moment. The
quality and direction of light can change instantaneously over the course of
each and every day. Clouds drift across the sky, sometimes letting the light
shine through, sometimes glowing with the colors of a sunrise or sunset. For
me, as a photographer, it is the right combination of subject, moment, and
technical skill that makes a sucessful photograph. My greatest task is to decide
how to arrange the elements in the photograph, what to include and what to
exclude. These are a few examples of my work I would like to share with you.
